Le Mortelle winery
Last Monday, I visited Le Mortelle and I fall in love:
It is a so small, elegant, warm in atmosphere winery!
Le Mortelle estate is located in the Tuscan Maremma, near Castiglione della Pescaia, Grosseto.
This place belongs to the Antinori family a very very important Florentine family with more than hundreds wineries all around the world.
When you arrive to Le Mortelle, you cross an elegant gate and….vines drive you on both the sides till the top of the hill .
What you can see here is just a charming farm-style house that overlook the property.
The new cellar is, in the large part, underground in order to minimize its impact on the environment and was constructed using natural, local materials.
The structure is laid out on three levels where the entire production cycle takes place, at the deepest part the magnificent barrique and tasting room
Le Mortelle is bigger than you can imagine, 270 ha in total of which 160 ha planted to vineyards, 15 ha in fruit orchards, two artificial lakes, olive groves and woods.
In Le Mortelle, Antinori production is on three great Tuscan wines:
Poggio alle Nane ( 60% Cabernet Franc, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18 months in oak barrel) is the top one!
Botrosecco (60% Cabernet Sauvignon 40% Cabernet Franc, 12 months in oak barrel)
Vivia (50% Vermentino 40%Viogner 10% Ansonica)
In Springtime the restaurant has also outdoor tables under the trees with a speechless view.
